Church deacon tries to have oral sex with “teen” he met on Grindr

A Maspeth man was charged with attempting to have oral sex with a 14-year-old that he met on the app Grindr.

If convicted, 50-year-old Rogelio Vega of 59th Drive faces up to seven years in prison.

According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Vega began using the app last July to communicate online with a detective undercover as a teenage boy. Vega used sexually-explicit language on the chat.

For several months, the DA said, the chats continued with Vega asking the undercover investigator to send him nude photos. On three separate occasions, Vega shared photos of his genitals with the “teen,” and made several requests to meet for oral sex.

Last week, Vega again requested an in-person meeting with the “teen,” and drove to a pre-arranged place to meet. That’s when he was arrested by the undercover investigator.

“The defendant by all outward appearances is a church-going family man. Sadly, the real person under the sheep’s clothing is an alleged sexual predator who sought out a teenage boy to fulfill his needs,” Katz said in a statement. “The arrest of this individual should serve as a warning to all those who think they can prey on youngsters online without being caught.”
