At around 12:00PM, teachers and students of I.S. 73 in Maspeth evacuated the school because of a strong smell of gas in
the area. The strong gaseous smell was also reported near the Stop & Shop on Grand Avenue and 80th St.
The odor is under investigation.
Interesting….the photo shows Grand Ave between 69 Lane and 71 Street, ’73 is on 71 Street and 54 Avenue, and Stop and Shop is on 74th and Grand….Try getting someone from Maspeth to do the photos and captions…
IS 73 was indeed evacuated, around 11:25 am. The students were brought (under supervision) around the entire block, to Grand Avenue; from the (opposite) corner of Fame Diner, up the block east past 71st. At the time, there was now apparent link to Stop&Shop.
