The Maspeth commercial strip had been neglected by legislators for decades until Assemblywoman Marge Markey got involved in making sure there were funds for beautification. She made sure the LIE sound barriers were done the right way and she continues to battle for our fair share. She has assured us that she is working towards getting the Maspeth truck traffic bypass through – not by yelling and screaming, but with true negotiation with the Department of Transportation and various agencies. We endorse Markey for a new term in the Assembly. Her Republican opponent has neither the ability to work with other legislators or the insight to see the much needed Maspeth bypass to fruition.
