Stop & Shop in Maspeth was bursting at the seams Saturday afternoon at the official grand opening of Citizen’s Bank, which has a history of opening locations within the supermarket chain, and now Maspeth has one of its own.

Members of the community were excited about the prospect of having a fully operating bank directly in their local supermarket. Many residents were chatting with bank employees about opening accounts.

Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley even made an appearance, wishing the branch well and tactfully adding that the branch will now be fiscally responsible for Maspeth residents. “We hope you grow into a big strong bank, help people to save money, grow small businesses and help economically.” Said Ms. Crowley.

Citizen’s Bank has a lengthy history serving New England and now they are branching out to serve more of the northeast. Branch manager Sandy Lee is excited about the new location. She understands how important it is for people to have easily accessible banking, while feeling comfortable with those they’re entrusting with their hard-earned money.

“People look at us like peers,” said Lee, “they relate to us.”

Citizen’s Bank is located inside Stop & Shop at 74-17 Grand Avenue in Maspeth.
