Fly on Down to The Bird’s Nest!

Vanessa Reyes and Suzan Burdan are writing a new chapter in their fashion adventure. On Wednesday, September 15, the pair celebrated the grand opening of their new store, The Bird’s Nest, on Metropolitan Avenue.

The pair began their fashion adventure with Stella Gialla on Metropolitan Avenue. From there they moved the store to Atlas Park and even opened up Stella Gialla Decorum across the way from their fashion boutique. As is common knowledge, Atlas Park has been going through some struggles of its own and the girls decided to move on.

“It was heartbreaking,” said Reyes. “It was such a beautiful place to work, [and] we’d go to work thinking how lucky are we to be here?”

However the pair finds that being without management is extremely liberating. “They were really wonderful working with us and our creativity, but we still had to ask permission,” explained Reyes. At The Bird’s Nest, Reyes and Burdan are free to create their own hours and design the store however they like without someone else’s approval.

The Bird’s Nest is a brand new start, and although it’s reminiscent of Stella Gialla in style, the concept is different.

“It’s a nice mix of vintage, mainstream and independent designers,” said Reyes. “We’re trying to keep our price points low and affordable and also have unique fun things that are not found everywhere. People see how we’re styling things and assume it’s expensive cause we’re really good at putting stuff together.”

None of the clothing is exorbitantly priced which means that almost everyone can afford to shop at The Bird’s Nest. “We want to create something nice and accessible for everyone who lives here,” said Reyes.

The Bird’s Nest is located at 73-18 Metropolitan Avenue. For more information call (718) 326-0009.
