“Home care for the elderly means that independence can be maintained but with some help so that health and safety are not compromised. Jukebox Health provides full-service home modifications to help older adults age-in-place. Our occupational therapists-led home safety assessment identifies client’s goals and recommends simple modifications or adaptive products that increase safety, comfort, and independence,” said Daniel Elliot from Jukebox Health.

“We are excited to work with Beacon Eldercare to assist older adults in the entire New York metropolitan area and look forward to keeping older adults safe, happy, and healthy at home and in the community,” Elliot added.

The second guest is Bernice Shapiro, a veteran Geriatric Care Managing Nurse. Shapiro is a RN with over 30 years of clinical, academic and administrative nursing experience working with the elderly and infirm.
As a former Director of Nursing and Clinical Services for a one of the largest Not-for Profit Guardianship Agencies, Bernice oversaw the clinical and medical needs and care of  elderly incapacitated individuals.  She has the experience and unique skill sets to address all levels of care for the elderly.
As a Geriatric Care Manager, Bernice can evaluate the needs of her elderly clients, develop and maintain individual care plans and ensure that each individual receives the necessary care and treatment to ensure their safety, security and medical well being.
Bernice maintains a strong relationship with the elder law community. Bernice is recognized and appointed by the NYS Supreme Court as an exemplary Geriatric Care Manager and Personal Needs Guardian.
Bernice’s extensive contacts with home care agencies ensures ongoing, consistent direct care will be provided to maximize a client’s ability to remain in their community residence.

Seminar Host, Yvonne Murphy believes that home care for the elderly should include a supportive environment that encourages mental activity and social interaction. “This along with physical activity are known to help prevent cognitive decline,” Murphy said.

“Safety and home care for the elderly should be balanced and will be based on each individuals unique situation. Planning ahead and speaking to a home care provider is key to helping older adults live longer in their own homes,” added Andrew Jaloza, your other host for the Zoom seminar.
