Martin Luther Boys Varsity Basketball Team Wins Their Invitational Tournament

mlsinvitational2016-17The Martin Luther Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated Cathedral Prep. to win the MLS Winter Invitational Classic Tournament for a second straight year.

The four team tournament consisted of Martin Luther (PSAA), Cathedral Prep. (CHSAA), Avenues School (PSAA), and School of the Future (PSAL).

MLS, coached by John Sanchez, vanquished School of the Future by a wide margin in their first game to advance to the championship; in which they faced a hard-working Cathedral Prep. team coached by Sean Hicks.

MLS got out to an early 15 point lead, and kept up the pressure throughout the game. Cathedral’s big men gave MLS problems. Cathedral’s rebounding and execution sparked two late runs is the third and fourth quarter, but the lead never dropped below double digits.

MLS executed their press, attacked the rim in transition, and shot the ball well; resulting in a 10 point win for the Cougars.

MVP of the tournament was MLS swingman Kumar Lewis. MLS guards, Cristian Reyes, Taylor Huyghue, and Emmanuel Bernard were nominated to the “all tournament team.”
