Water Pollution Advisory for Maspeth’s Newtosn Creek Through Sunday Morning

Following an officially reported rainfall of 1.59 inches at LaGuardia Airport for the 24-hour period ending at 7AM Friday morning an official “Waterbody Advisory” has been issued for Newtown Creek until Sunday morning, July 31 at 6:51AM. So it is recommended by  NYC Department of Environmental Protection that there be no swimming and no fishing until then. Flushing Creek’s advisory ends  at the same time.

You see, the waterbody advisory comes because the combined sewer outlet, CSO, located in the creek had so much rainfall mixing with raw sewage that it is further contaminating the Creek.

Who knew…..
