Anthony Rivello, a student at Stuyvesant High School and a Maspeth resident, has completed his Eagle Scout project: a mural of the map of the world in the basement at St. Stan’s.
A rising senior at Stuyvesant, Rivello has been scouting for the last decade. He started as just a kindergartener.
He chose to paint a map in hopes of getting local students interested in geography and history.
He also wanted to pay homage to Maspeth’s embrace of immigrants throughout its history, from Polish, Italian and Irish immigrants in the 20th century to South American and Asian immigrants in the last few decades.
Rivello chose St. Stan’s for his Eagle Scout project due to his familial connection to the school and parish. His father and uncle both attended grammar school here, and his grandfather has a strong connection to the parish.
