On Monday, the Diocese of Brooklyn announced that all elementary Catholic academies and parish schools in Brooklyn and Queens will remain closed until April 20.
That follows last week’s announcement that schools were closed from March 16 to March 20 out of an abundance of caution due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
It mirrors the decision that the Department of Education made regarding public schools as well.
“The decision to close is based on the interdependency of services between public schools and Catholic schools,” said Dr. Thomas Chadzutko, superintendent of schools.
Many families that attend Diocesan schools depend on NYC services like bus transportation, meals, nurses and security guards.
