On Monday morning at around 6 a.m. while Maspeth Grill & Deli clerk Raphael was opening for the day, a man in a mask attempted to rob the 7101 Grand Avenue store at gunpoint.
Raphael reports that he told the perpetrator there was no money in the drawer since the store had just opened, and the would-be robber fled the scene.
The clerk describes the perpetrator as tall, skinny, and someone he vaguely recognized from around the neighborhood.
“This isn’t a good neighborhood anymore, Raphael said. There was the bank robbery down the street just a couple of weeks ago and the Chase bank was held up not that long ago either,” Raphael said.
