House of Spices (India), Inc. is prepping a new factory in Maspeth, MIBA reports.

The importer of spices and foods from India will be investing $6.4 million into a 25,000 sq. ft. facility to continue its 40-year legacy as a family-owned Queens business. The move was made possible with the support of the New York City Industrial Development Corporation.

House of Spices is one of many businesses that was forced to move from its long-time Willets Point location in the face of impending redevelopment by the Queens Development Corporation, a collaboration between Sterling Equities and the Related Companies, two developers owned by Mets owners Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz, respectively. The former location of House of Spices amidst several major highways helped to make it one of the nation’s largest distributers of Indian spices in the country.
