Sanitation worker Steven Frosch was killed in a depot accident on Sat., June 21 at around 1 p.m.

A worker was killed at the Department of Sanitation’s Q5A Broom Depot in Maspeth yesterday.

At approximately 1 p.m., Steven Frosch was performing maintenance on a street sweeper just inside the entrance of the Q5A facility.

According to a report from the 104th Precinct:

“A further investigation revealed that the victim, an on-duty NYC Department of Sanitation Worker, was performing maintenance work on a NYC Department of Sanitation street sweeper just inside of the location when another street sweeper, operated by a 33 year old on-duty NYC Department of Sanitation worker, was driving forward and struck the victim, pinning him in between the two vehicles.”

According to the report, when officers arrived on the scene they found Frosch unconscious and lying on the floor with “severe body trauma.”

DSNY Commissioner Garcia has issued a statement offering condolences to the Frosch’s family in light of the tragedy.

In a statement released by the Mayor’s office at 10:05 p.m. last night, Bill de Blasio said, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of New York’s Strongest today while on the job in service of our city.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Steven Frosch’s family – especially his wife and four children – as well as his friends and fellow sanitation workers.  New York City stands ready to support them all in this tragic time of need.”

No arrests were made, though an investigation is ongoing.

The Maspeth Blog would like to add our condolences to the friends and family of the victim.
