World of Wheels opens today at Knockdown Center

Today the Knockdown Center will be hosting World of Wheels, but it’s not the World of Wheels you might be thinking of. There will be no monster trucks mashing cars into oblivion, no fire-breathing mechanical Godzillas. Instead, this exhibition focuses on the automobile “as our nation’s long-standing symbol of manifest destiny and superfluous ingenuity,” according to the Knockdown website.

Bedford and Bowery was able to get their hands on some preview pics of the eccentric car show, and from what they’re saying, this should be a pretty interesting event. There will be all sorts of vehicles, from souped-up Hondas to Lamborghinis, some in original condition and others altered to be more art piece than daily commuter.

One of the highlights of the day will probably be seeing a Knockdown contractor’s steamroller splashed with paint, though with very little information to go off of in advance, who knows what will happen. It is a Knockdown show, after all. Bottom line, no cats will be killed at this show, so if you’re curious, check it out for yourself.
