Fresh off a scouting day at Birch Coffee in Long Island City, Matthew Ozoria, a scout from troop 45 in Maspeth Town Hall, spoke at Queens Boy Scout Council meeting at St. Johns University on Wednesday, June 13th.
Ozoria talked about his experience while participating in the new scouting program called ‘Merit Badge Pro Series.’ Ozoria, who attends St. Sebastian Academy, spoke about his day at Birch Coffee, learning how the proprietors dealt with sustainability and how they traveled around the world to curate coffee beans.
The Merit Badge Pro Series is a new partnership program the Scouts have with businesses where the scouts earn a merit badge through a visit and learning about or training in a certain category or profession. The scouts have a one-day partnership Merit Badge program with Vaughn College for a Robotics Merit Badge, Unity International Group for an Electricity Merit Badge and a dozen more, including companies like Blenderbox, Gallop NYC, Boyce Technologies and Shapeways 3D. “We are looking for more companies who might want to work with us for a and-day merit Badge,” said Torey McClesky, Council Director for Queens Scouts.
The meeting took place in D’Angelo Center at St. Johns University.
