Maspeth Candlelight Vigil Kicks Off Memorial Day Parade Week

The Maspeth Memorial Day Parade takes place this Sunday at 1PM along Grand Avenue. The United Veterans and Fraternal Organizations of Maspeth kicked off Parade Week with a Candle Light Vigil at Maspeth Memorial Square at 8PM Monday night. Maspeth resident Carole Stines ran the program which included The St. Stans Players, Girl Scouts Junior Troop #4732 and Cadettes #4744. Deacon Art Griffin blessed the ceremony and Olivia Hupp was the guest speaker. Maryanna Zero, president of the UVFOM, welcomed the guests and Rosalia Gattuso sang Ave Maria. Candles for World War 1 were carried by by The Ladies Auxiliary Maspeth Unit 783, World War 2 by Women of the Moose Chapter 133 of the Maspeth Moose Lodge. The Korean War was represented by Polish Legion of American Veterans Chapter 4 of the Kowalinski Post – Ladies Auxiliary, Vietnam War by Vietnam Veterans of America Queens Chapter 32  and Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the American Victims of Terrorism were represented by Cardinal Spellman K of C Ladies Auxiliary.
