Msgr. McClancy student athlete Rhona McCaughey, from Maspeth, was the center of attention Wednesday at a college signing ceremony. Rhona, who plays basketball at McClancy signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Concordia College. She played CYO ball at St. Adalberts in Maspeth under coach Lou Pagnotta.
“McClancy felt like home when I first visited the school at its open house,” she said Wednesday. “I made a great decision and they supported me through my time here.”
She fondly recalled her 28-point effort in the Rose Catholic Tournament last year against Summit Academy.
“The top priority for our athletes is to excel in the classroom,” said McClancy’s director of admissions Nick Melito, as he introduced the athletes with their family to the crowd of 100 at the event. “Not only do these two role models excel in school but they make us proud on the court and field,” he said.
