The long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for Frank Principe (Maurice) Park ball fields is almost here.

Officials announced that the project construction will begin on Monday, November 6.

The Parks Department has awarded the $6.8 million project to William A. Gross Construction Associates, Inc. The park will hair a new synthetic turf soccer field with bleachers, two multi-purpose softball fields and other amenities.

A new entrance will be constructed along Maurice Avenue, and perimeter fencing will be reconstructed. Other amenities include misting stations and drinkable fountains/bottle fill stations.

“The Frank Principe Park ball fields had been neglected for many years. The lack of proper drainage left the fields flooded and our local athletes without a place to play,” said Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley. “This $6.8 million for a total ball field renovation, including a new regulation-sized soccer field, is an investment that will benefit our community for generations to come.”

The project is expected to be completed by January 2019.
