Maspeth Street Resurfacing GOOD – DOT Lazy

It’s nice that some streets on the Plateau are being resurfaced this week. DOT put ‘NO PARKING Monday or Tuesday’ paper signs up on 63 Place last week (see green sign in picture). All well and good…. no Parking 7 till 7 Monday and Tuesday. Makes sense…. they need to do the milling – scraping of the street to prepare for new asphalt.

Very few cars had to be removed Monday morning and neighbors understood not to park there. A great scraping job on the street indeed was completed.

But the  residents thought that they would be back to put the asphalt down on Tuesday – hence no parking Tuesday as well. It’s Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 and the dozens of signs stating NO PARKING TUESDAY are still posted.

The block is empty…. why?

This green sign should have been removed Monday by DOT after DOT was finished and they knew they would not be working on the block Tuesday. Instead the entire block of residents had to scramble to take up spots blocks away.

Most thought DOT would be back Tuesday to do SOMETHING .. no?

Why wouldn’t the dozen or so DOT people standing around doing little more than holding up stop signs or moving around traffic cones when needed ‘REMOVE THE PAPER SIGNS’ so we would know that the job is done …. and they wouldn’t be back tomorrow…. so we could all park there?

All night Monday and all day Tuesday residents on 63 Place scrambled to find parking blocks away. That’s just inconsiderate on the part of DOT.

According to one official at a city office in Glendale who asked not to me named on Tuesday….  DOT leaves a two-day window to do the scraping. While most lay people don’t understand the workings of DOT we asked …. “if that was the case why would they leave no parking signs that also showed Tuesday as a day not to park?”

We figured if they were not coming back wouldn’t it be courteous to remove the signs so residents wouldn’t scramble to look for spots blocks away from their home?

“Because they are LAZY and they just don’t care,” the city official said.

Yikes!
