What a rude welcome to the new year.

Maspeth resident Ann Marie McGee told Maspeth Blog that on January 6, her car was stolen.

Last Friday night, McGee and her husband were returning home when they noticed that their gray 2009 Toyota Corolla was missing.

After calling 911, McGee said police used an app to track the car, which located it on the Williamsburg Bridge at 5:30 a.m. They later found the car parked right next to the 7th Precinct in the Lower East Side.

McGee said she believes the perpetrator lives in the housing development on Pitt Street.

According to the Maspeth resident, who posted about the incident on Facebook, when cops approached the suspect, he was attempting to take off her car’s license plate.

“They went up to him and he got away,” McGee wrote. She later said that an officer lost him after chasing him for six blocks.

McGee said police officers “got a good look at him” and was supposed to turn himself in on Monday, but didn’t show up.

“He’s a professional car thief who needs to be off the streets,” McGee said. “People have to realize that cars are not safe anymore.”

McGee believes the theft first broke in when her windows were busted a few months before, and found a way to break in again. She advised neighbors to “be aware if your windows get broken.”

“Secure your car to the best of your ability,” she said.

She said she hopes once officers catch him, they “put this guy away forever.”

Although she got her car back, McGee estimates that there were thousands of dollars worth of damage. She’s already trying to get new keys and ignition for the car.

“I don’t want this happening to anybody,” she said.

McGee, who lives on 70th Street between 53rd Avenue and 52nd Drive, asked that if any neighbors have any information, including possible surveillance footage, report it to the 104th Precinct or Maspeth Blog to help with the investigation
