CB5 land use committee not in support of Knockdown Center liquor license

The Community Board 5 land use committee will not recommend a resolution for the Knockdown Center to receive its much-coveted liquor license. In a vote last night, the committee, which Board Chair Vinny Arcuri charged with making a recommendation on the license at this month’s CB5 meeting, voted against granting the license.

The board will present its resolution at the next CB5 meeting on June 10.

The vote comes after the Knockdown Center made a direct appeal to the community board during May’s meeting to rethink their stance on the liquor license, which they voted not to recommend in May of last year. The State Liquor Authority subsequently voted not to grant the license, citing community opposition.

At this month’s CB5 meeting affiliates, employees and the owner of the center all took to the microphone and handed out pamphlets advocating for the board to reconsider their vote.

The Knockdown Center was slated for a recertification hearing with the SLA on June 2, but at the urging of the community board that hearing has been postponed until after they vote on the license during their June meeting.
